Ronald Purser released a best selling book called McMindfulness: How Mindfulness Became the New Capitalist Spirituality. In his book he discusses how, "Mindfulness is now all the rage. From celebrity endorsements to monks, neuroscientists and meditation coaches rubbing shoulders with CEOs at the World Economic Forum in Davos, it is clear that mindfulness has gone mainstream. Some have even called it a revolution." In my work in the mental health field, the word mindfulness is thrown around left and right and is the main tenant of many evidence-based therapies. This is an interesting critique so let's discuss mindfulness in mental health and how to make sense of this dichotomy.
